Entomological Illustration
Client: Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
Tools: Coloured pencil, Photoshop CC
Audience: Entomological researchers and the general public
INTRODUCTION:
Completed as part of an internship at the Smithsonian, these beetles further developed my skills in digital illustration as well as adaptability to a specific style. These will be published in a text with many other beetles done using the same techniques.
RESEARCH:
During my time I studied techniques specific to the field of entomological illustration such as digital coquille, using a stereo microscope with a camera lucida attachment, as well as gaining knowledge of common anatomical terms in entomology.
SOLUTION/RESULTS:
The illustrations completed are part of a project that illustrates thousands of flea beetles from around the world. Other illustrations of the new genus of beetle are to published in entomological journals.
